Wear resistant cermet coating

wear resistant cermet coating

What is wear resistant cermet coating?

wear resistant cermet coating is a coating that is applied to the surface of a substrate by thermal spraying, dipping or other coating techniques to improve its wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. Commonly used ceramic materials include aluminum oxide, silicon nitride, etc.

Cermet is a heterogeneous composite material composed of metal (alloy) and one (several) ceramic phases. In cermet, the volume fraction of ceramic phase accounts for 15%~90%, which makes cermet not only maintain the high strength, high hardness, wear resistance, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and chemical stability of ceramics, but also has good toughness and plasticity. The ceramic phase in cermet is usually composed of high melting point oxides (such as Al2O3, ZrO2, etc.), carbides (such as TiC, SiC, WC, etc.), borides (such as TiB2, ZrB2, CrB2, etc.), nitrides (such as TiN, BN, Si3N, etc.).

What are the properties of wear resistant cermet coating?

Ceramics have the characteristics of high melting point, high hardness, high strength, high chemical stability, high insulation capacity, low thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, etc., and can be used as coatings to effectively improve the wear resistance, high heat resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance of the base material. Ceramics have properties that are difficult for metal materials to achieve, so they are widely used in the preparation of various ceramic coatings. Wear-resistant ceramics combine the advantages of ceramics with the toughness of metal materials. Spraying on the surface of the material can make the material have the characteristics of metal toughness, machinability and wear resistance, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and insulation of ceramics, which is of great significance for improving social and economic benefits and extending the service life of parts. However, due to the high melting point of ceramics, it is difficult to prepare high-quality ceramic coatings that meet engineering applications using general methods. At present, the main methods for preparing ceramic coatings are plasma spraying and supersonic flame spraying.
